Why the Voide has Died

Dear readers,

If you have been a follower of The Voide for any period of time, thank you. You may have noticed that it has been quite some time since I last posted on this blog, and that my posts have been sporadic at best over the last 6 months. If the measuring stick for a good fashion blogger is timely posting, I certainly have not been measuring up, and today I want to share with you why that is.

Last year, right around this time (Halloween Day to be specific) I moved across the country from LA to New Jersey. I grew up in New Jersey and after 3 and a half years of living in LA I decided that I wanted move back home to be closer to my family and friends. My parents were gracious enough to welcome me back into the family home with open arms, and for that I am truly grateful. Their generosity gave me the opportunity to re-evaluate my life, and my goals, without the stress of the many financial obligations that come with living on your own.

Over the past year, I spent a lot of my time developing an idea that I had to create a line of bracelets that double as hair-ties. I've loved that concept, and I didn't see anything in the marketplace that matched the vision of the bracelets I had in my head. Today I am so excited to share with you the result of this past year's efforts, my new line Tied & True Bands.

Tied & True Bands is a line of adorable wristbands that double as hair-ties and I am very excited about them! I've decided to donate 10% of my profits to Conservation International, an organization that works tirelessly to ensure a healthy planet for everyone. My sincere hope for Tied & True Bands is that people will really connect with both the style and the message and that together we we will be able to make a meaningful contribution to the preservation of our environment.

So there you have it, the reason this blog has been so (unfairly!) neglected is because my focus has been elsewhere, and for the meantime at least, is going to remain elsewhere. Nevertheless, creating and writing The Voide has been a meaningful experience for me because it taught me to express my creativity and to explore new avenues. I would encourage anyone reading this post to do the same!

Thank you to those of you who have followed this blog, your support and interest has been invaluable to me.

Love,

Darcy

Photoprint Swimwear

I am totally having a moment with photoprint swimwear, and no one is nailing it quite like the designers over at We Are Handsome. I mean check out these images from their 2012 lookbook:

We Are Handsome

As gorgeous as these suits are they start at around $200, which I was having a hard time dealing with emotionally when I saw this suit in 'blurry floral' by Victoria's Secret. I think it mimics the photoprint style pretty well and for a fraction of the price at $60 I'd call it a steal.

Fitness Voide!

If there's one thing we know here at The Voide, it's that the hard body never goes out of style. So when Gillian Casten, founder of RateYourBurn approached me last spring about doing some blogging for her site I jumped at the opportunity. At the time I was living in Los Angeles, and Gillian, who is based in New York needed someone on the ground in LA who could test and review various gyms and classes in LA. Cut to me at a different gym every week spinning, kickboxing, and yoga-ing my face off.

It was a great experience, and forced me to get out of my comfort zone. I'm so glad that I did it and am very excited that my reviews are now being posted on RateYourBurn! You can check them out under the blog section of RateYourBurn by choosing Los Angeles. My alias is FitnessVoide, gotta love that.

What are you wearing for the 4th this year?

Earlier in the spring, I found myself in the mall going in and out of every store to try to find a navy blue top to go with these floral pants. I wasn't having a lot of success when I happened upon good old Abercrombie & Fitch. Yup. They had a lot of navy blue stuff in the window and so I held my nose and snuck by the teenage 'greeters' to see what I could find. Low and behold, I did find a navy blue top. A really cute one too, that you don't have to be 14 to look good in! I scooped it up for $50 bucks, and I'm sure glad I did as it will look great for the 4th of July with white jeans and some red accessories. What are you going to wear for the 4th?

From Jorts to Party Time

Hello Dear Readers!

First of all I have to say that I'm sorry I fell off the blogging train for so long! This seems to be a phenomenon that happens every summer because I switch into summer mode, and spend as much time as possible in jorts and t-shirts... and there's only so much you can say about jorts and t-shirts (they're great! wear them!)...

But I do have a wedding coming up, and nothing gets me as excited about outfit planning as a wedding does. In fact, I already posted about how I was going to wear a Moschino Cheap and Chic dress from Rent the Runway. But as laziness has been a real problem as of late I neglected to reserve it on time and they were out of my size for the date that I needed it on :(. So I reached into my old bag of tricks/blog posts and remembered that I had my eye on this hot little number from Anthropologie. I love the bright colors and it's 60's vibe, so here's a little vision board on how I would like to style it for the (someone else's) big day. Plus it's on sale now for $80 if you're interested!

True Love

I adore this video made by the ladies over at The Desire Project. We all know what it is like to be smitten with an article of clothing and Sam Taylor's telling of her beloved coat is as hysterical as it is charming. She deserves that coat.

A Necklace Purchase You Won't Regret

I'm a sucker for a big statement necklace, this is not news to anyone who reads this blog. But as much as I love giant colorful necklaces, the fact of the matter is they just don't match well with a variety of outfits. Enter the over-sized chain necklace. I love how a bulky chain can make a big impact on any look, plus when you own one in gold its guaranteed to go with just about anything in your wardrobe.

I love how Alex of HRH Collection rocks her gold necklaces nearly every day. Plus she creates them herself and sells them in her online store. I'm thinking of getting the Sheik necklace as an early birthday present for myself. Not only would it be a versatile addition to any wardrobe, but it's also a great opportunity to support an independent jewelry maker - gotta love that!

Memorial Day

Memorial Day is on it's way, and I know I am really looking forward to a little 3 day weekend. I just ordered a pair of printed pants from Zara and I think they will be perfect for a backyard BBQ. I'm loving the fun prints, Happy Friday!

Vintage Prints Anyone?

I found myself in Anthropologie the other day and I was quite taken with the dresses they had on display. The prints have a distinct vintage feel but the modern cuts keep them looking current. I'm starting to wish my calendar had a few more garden parties on it!

Decisions Decisions

Okay ladies, I need your help. I have been scouring the internet lately for the perfect pair of 'day' wedges. The qualifications were, they had to be neutral enough to pair with anything, and they couldn't be sky-high. I've narrowed it down to two pairs, both from DSW and each less than $50. So now it's time to pull the trigger, which ones would you choose? Help! Share your thoughts in the comments!

To Crop? Or Not to Crop?

That is the question. I have this A-line pale yellow skirt at home that sits pretty high on my waist (similar to the one pictured below). I've been on the lookout for a cute crop top to pair with it when I found this blue and white one on TopShop, and I think it could make for a cute day-to-evening spring and summer look. Thoughts? Share them in the comments!

The Perfect Pattern

Can we discuss the 'Arizona' pattern that Tibi is using in their spring line? I think I'm in love. Seriously, if I were a pattern I would want to be this one. It somehow manages to be graphic and soft and playful all at the same time. All of these items are available at Tibi.com - for a pretty penny - but with colors this cute I'm thinking they're worth the splurge.

Spend or Save: Pour La Victoire Wedges

It's no secret that I'm obsessed with Atlantic-Pacific blogger Blair Eadie. I especially admire how she mixes and matches her outfits so that she re-wears all of her stuff without repeating a specific look. For that reason, I take particular notice when she re-wears an item over and over again. Take a look at her shoes in these four looks:

Blair notes that she is wearing Pour La Victoire shoes in each of these posts, and while the exact pair is no longer available, I did find this similar pair on Pour La Victoire's site for $250:

So the question remains, would you spend $250 on these shoes? On the one hand, they are incredibly versatile, but on the other hand $250 is a lot of money! I did a little digging and found some more affordable options online, which ones would you pick?

Yellow Fever

So I'm thinking about renting this dress by Moschino Cheap and Chic from Rent the Runway for a wedding that I have this summer:

I love the bold color of the dress and think that a bold shoe would really drive the look home. Here are some of the options I'm thinking about, which one do you like best? Share in the comments!

Fashion Lessons Learned in Mexico

Do not be afraid of color. After walking the streets of beautiful San Miguel, I couldn't help but feel inspired by the both the colors of the city and those of the goods sold in the local shops. While in the US we've been seeing a lot of brights and pastels this spring (which I love don't get me wrong), this trip to Mexico was a great reminder that intense, rich colors make a strong impact.

These threaded name bracelets were a favorite amongst my girlfriends and me. The artisan who was selling them could custom make any name in a matter of minutes!

Some of the more traditional styles would make for a unique beach cover up.

How great would one of these be for an overnight bag?

Does anyone else remember when these wallets were popular in the 90's?

These nifty totes could brighten up any trip to the grocery store.

¡Hola México!

Hello Dear Readers. I am in a fantastic mood today because I am leaving for beautiful San Miguele De Allende tomorrow morning and I couldn't be more excited! One of my dear friends from college is getting married there and I am all too happy to take a little vacation to be there to celebrate with her, and to check out all of the excitement that San Miguel has to offer. Who knows, maybe I'll even pick up a few treats at the local shops!

See you next week!

Bottom's Up!

Some of the best warm weather pieces I've ever owned are separates. I've started to notice that each spring I wear and re-wear a select few pairs of shorts and skirts that I bought a few seasons ago. I think the reason for this is that a great skirt or pair of shorts can be thrown on with a t-shirt to make for an adorable, but very easy-to-wear look. For that reason I am on the lookout for some fun skirts and shorts this season, here are the 7 best I've found for under $100. Which are your faves? Share in the comments!

The Swimsuit Hunt Begins

The swimsuit hunt is never easy, this we know. This year I'm on the lookout for tops in the 'balconette' style, they seem pretty flattering to me, no? What style swimsuit do you find the most flattering? share your tips in the comments! Happy Friday!
